Yes, I do agree with you.
If a person has lots of money, it shouldn’t be a reason to for doctors to give out drugs.
Some doctors are more concerned about how much money they get than the welfare of their patients.

Lately in the news; Physicians are losing their license to practice medicine because they are over prescribing pain medications to patients that are becoming addicted and dying.

Believe it or not; Doctors are the main reason- a lot of people become addicted to pain meds. They give them out for every little thing and after a while the patient is in more pain from not taking the pain pills than the pain they were originally prescribed for. They prescribe pills for waking up; staying awake and alert; sleeping , for pain.and for depression. A thin line exists between a need and addiction. Because they develop a drug tolerance, they require more and more until it becomes a drug addiction.

For example, the Oxycontin- this particular medication has been abused and a lot of people have died from it including teens. I think doctors need to be more responsible when prescribing these kinds of meds. They need to watch for the warning signs of abuse and not write prescriptions out EVERYTIME someone comes in the office. Some doctors give pain meds out like candy. So yes I think in a way some doctors are like drug dealers.

Why do Doctors do this? They are no better then street level dealers. Are they being compensated by the Pharmaceutical Companies? Prescription drugs of abuse is the major cause of death in the U.S.

Doctors do this because they can and that is part of their job. I agree with you 100%. These Doctors should be held liable for over-prescribing drugs. I believe most doctors are trustworthy and are not trying to kill folks intentionaly. However, there is a handful that keep right on giving out prescriptions.

It’s all about the money for some doctors. If taking away their license is not enough; maybe they should be required to spend some time in JAIL.

DRUG COMPANY BRIBERY

Most people are not aware that Drug Companies spend thousands of dollars per year on each medical Doctor “selling” them on using their particular products. Drug companies hire “detail men” to visit physicians’ offices and give them drug samples. These salesmen, who are not doctors and have NO medical or pharmacological training, tell your medical doctor what drugs to use for what problems.

Drug companies start this process early by offering medical students gifts, free trips to “conferences,” and free “educational material,” when translated means propaganda on that drug company’s products. In Australia drug companies spend an average of $ 10,000 per year per physician marketing their products. The result of all of this is a massive overprescribing of drugs.

The Drug Companies don’t stop with just practicing M.D.s, though, but also direct major dollars toward HOSPITALS, medical schools and supposedly “independent” research institutes. Medical Schools, for example, are given grants for clinical trials, pharmaceutical research, or even buildings. These companies have sought to gain massive influence over medical teaching institutions by spreading their money around.

Pharmaceutical companies, by enlisting the aid of influential academic physicians, have gained control of the practice of medicine in the United States. They now set the standards of practice by hiring investigators to perform studies which establish the efficacy of their products or impugn that of their competitors.

Doctors prescribing drugs without merrit leads to these potentially deadly drugs on the streets and in the hands of our kids.

I think doctors need to be held more accountable for their actions. I realize they are human and do make mistakes but they need to be more cautious and not so concerned about money but about the lives that are entrusted to them.

Over prescribing of painkillers; sedatives and narcotics are all responsible for celebrities death like those of Elvis, Heath Ledger, River Phoenix; Beluchi and now Michael Jackson. Their fame and money enable them to procure these meds at their own peril.and destruction. Unfortunately, it all leads to a total waste of talent and early uncalled for- deaths.
