It is best that she work with a Melanoma specialist if the node is determined to be Melanoma. First a biopsy will have to be performed. 2010 and 2011 has had several good news stories for the treatment of Melanoma. Yervoy (ipilimumab) has just been approved by the FDA for the treatment of stage IV melanoma. This drug has been very successful in trials and in off label use for the last few years. There are also very successful treatments for specific genetic matched types of melanoma.

all the best to your mother.
